Cubs Win!

My gosh, this was a crazy game.

I was doing a fair amount of doubting before the comeback for the ages in the 9th inning. What a rally…what a finish! The Cubs showed a lot of heart out there.

This lifelong fan is beyond excited for what’s happening and what (hopefully) might be to come in this year’s playoffs.

Go Cubs, Go!

What a Finish!

Is anyone else still as amazed as I am about what happened during the final five seconds of the NCAA national championship game Monday night? Wow!

You couldn’t script it any better if you tried.

Powerhouse North Carolina, fighting all the way back from what had been an increasing deficit, to tie it up with a miracle three-pointer by Marcus Paige with 4.7 seconds left. Probably one of the best shots in the history of the tournament – but, it was immediately topped by what happened next.

Cue Kris Jenkins…

!!!

Oh. My. Gosh.

Check out some of the reactions from Villanova fans and announcers. Simply incredible.

They don’t call it “one shining moment” for nothing. Congratulations, Villanova. Great performance, unforgettable memories made.

We were yelling and screaming from our living room. Stuff like this is so much fun. Just one of many reasons why I love sports. What a finish!

Have a great day.

The Cubs are in the Playoffs

Chicago Cubs Logo

As such, I must at least acknowledge this with some sort of blog post. 🙂

Here’s hoping the Cubbies can make a run in the postseason this year. Nearly 100 wins in the regular season, exceeding expectations, tons of excitement along the way…and for the moment, it all comes down to a one-game Wild Card matchup against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Regardless of what happens, it is very nice to at least be talking about the Cubs in October – heck, the second half of the season for that matter.

Excited to watch the game Wednesday night and I’m optimistic (sign of any true Chicago Cubs fan) that we will be hoisting the W flag afterward in victory.

Go Cubs, Go!

Baseball!

Ok, I will admit. I’ve been pretty far removed from the game I grew up enjoying for the past few years. Yes, a big part of that is because my team, the Chicago Cubs really has not been anything remotely close to average, much less good in recent memory.

But, hope springs eternal and this year, the Cubbies look like they could be pretty good. New manager, new players, new attitude. And…renewed interest from this fan.

At Bat

I found this great app, called MLB At Bat. Lets you keep track of all things baseball, and it lets you access TV and/or radio broadcasts of the games, for a fee.

I went with the radio subscription. $20 for the entire season, with no blackouts and with access to broadcasts from both the home and away teams of every game. That’s a lot of baseball!

For me, it means getting to listen to Pat Hughes right on my phone. Good times.

You can also listen to archived games on your computer…which is nice when you can’t catch the game as it happens. There’s even a button to hide the scores when you go to listen to a replay. Cool stuff.

Looking forward to listening to the games this spring and summer. It’s nice to be back in the ‘swing’ of things with baseball. Hopefully the Cubs can put together a good year. Either way, it’s fun to enjoy the games.

Have a great day.

The Gym

Yes, the gym – as in, the place where I’ve been the past two nights.

That makes two more nights than I’ve spent at one of these places in the past, oh, three or four years combined.

You see, I’m no bodybuilder. I’m not into getting all buff and stuff, nor do I really care what people think about my physique. I mean let’s face it. I’m a short, skinny, pale, redheaded kid. It is what it is 🙂

At the same time, I have not been exercising anywhere near as much as one should if one is trying to take good care of oneself.

And so, I made a promise to take better care of myself this year, which means this strange place called the gym may start becoming a lot more familiar to me. Not to try to get huge, but instead to get healthy.

I joined a place that is just a few minutes away from my house. It’s great. New, clean, plenty of space, open 24 hours, very affordable…and all kinds of TV sets including of course ESPN which I no longer have after cancelling cable last year (another story for another time) so as an added bonus it’s a place to watch sports! All while getting off the couch and out of the house.

Jackpot.

Here’s to all of us being healthy and taking better care of ourselves in the year ahead. Oh, and if you need me this week I’ll be watching the Australian Open on TV #3 by the elliptical machines.

Have a great day.
