Recirculate

You never know where you might find inspiration. Sometimes, it appears on a valve control.

Huh?

This morning, I was adding the final round of chemicals to the pool for the year. The directions indicated the importance of making sure those chemicals were distributed throughout the entire pool, for maximum effectiveness in keeping algae and other undesired material from settling in during the winter months.

All of this is fine and good…except when it’s not getting distributed. That was my dilemma, as the filter did not want to kick in.

Turns out, there’s a feature on the valve control called “Recirculate”. Basically, it bypasses the filter and just shoots the water back into the pool, moving it all around and, in this case, making sure those important chemicals would get distributed.

It got me thinking…recirculate. To circulate something by definition means to move or cause to move continuously or freely through a closed system or area. To recirculate is to circulate continuously.

I don’t know about you, but there are some things I need to start making sure to circulate and then recirculate inside me, more often. God’s truth and equally, His grace. The eternal hope we have in Jesus – no matter what life brings our way. Positive self-talk and thoughts. You know, good stuff.

Problem is, the things I tend to have circulating in my mind aren’t always good. I get bogged down with yuck so easily. It’s been too easy for me to forget He has a good plan for my life.

The things circulating – moving continuously or freely through our minds – can be detrimental to us. Negative thoughts circulating continuously will only take us away from the destiny God has for us and the peace we can have during this life, even when the challenges are many.

It’s time to grab onto the hope which can make me glad at all times, and recirculate it until it is all that is flowing inside of me. But, why stop there?

Circulate also means pass or cause to pass from place to place or person to person. I want to share hope with everyone, pass it from place to place. Admittedly, it’s been a little while; some chapters of life are more difficult than others. But, God is still good, through it all.

I’m going to hit the “recirculate” button on hope, joy, peace, and everything good He wants inside me. We’ll see what happens next.

Have a great day.

Just Be Yourself

Perhaps the best thing in life that you can be – is yourself.

After all there’s only one of you (Romans 12:6-7)
and God’s pretty happy about what He made (Psalm 149:4)
so why bother trying to be something else?

So just be yourself, be awesome, and smile knowing that you’re one-of-a-kind…and that’s a good thing 🙂

Have a great day, friends.

The Alex Teves Challenge

http://www.cnn.com/2012/07/29/us/colorado-shooting-alex-teves/index.html?hpt=hp_t1

From the article:

“If you want to describe Alex in one word, he was just good,” says his father, Tom Teves. “He wasn’t a standout in anything, but he cared about people.”

It is the goodness of humanity that Teves wants the world to know and remember: the virtues of his son — and the 11 others killed at a midnight premiere of the latest Batman movie, “The Dark Knight Rises,” in a cinema in Aurora, Colorado.

That desire has taken shape as a crusade. In the midst of mourning his first born, Tom Teves has wrested purpose from his grief — the Alex Teves Challenge, he calls it. He demands that the media stop naming and showing images of the gunmen in mass murders.

If you continue reading the article, you will see that the father of Alex Teves wants everyone to remember the heroic acts of those who perished at that movie theater in Colorado, and not the act of cowardice that took so many lives.

His message is geared toward the news media but it carries a broader meaning that can be put into practice by all of us.

Focus on the good, not the bad. Let good triumph over evil.

Bad things will happen and our lives will not be void of hard times, sometimes extremely hard times. The world is not a perfect place.

But, no matter what it might be…even something as horrific as someone walking into a crowded movie theater and shooting innocent men, women, and children…we don’t have to dwell on the evil act, nor do we have to let evil win.

I don’t know if Mr. Teves had this in mind when he came up with his challenge, but I’m going to offer it here anyway:

Romans 12:21
Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

Let’s keep the good in the forefront, whether it’s in the aftermath of this tragic event, or just the every day doings of our lives.

Let’s live our lives in a way that promotes good, not evil.

Let’s be positives, not negatives.

Let’s accept this challenge and overcome evil with good.

God bless.

Some People Change

Here’s to the strong, thanks to the brave. Don’t give up hope, some people change. Against all odds, against the grain. Love finds a way, some people change.

I’ve always liked this song. I believe that anyone can change, no matter who they’ve been and what they’ve done in their life. Not everyone does, and I recognize that. But anyone can…and some people do, just like the chorus of that song says.

Let Your Hope Make You Glad

As is the case with every time I post Bible verses this is more of a reminder to myself than anything, but if these words mean something to someone reading them here, I feel it’s worth posting them.

I read this passage this morning and it spoke to me. Here it is:

Romans 12:9-21

9Be sincere in your love for others. Hate everything that is evil and hold tight to everything that is good. 10Love each other as brothers and sisters and honor others more than you do yourself. 11Never give up. Eagerly follow the Holy Spirit and serve the Lord. 12Let your hope make you glad. Be patient in time of trouble and never stop praying. 13Take care of God’s needy people and welcome strangers into your home.

14Ask God to bless everyone who mistreats you. Ask him to bless them and not to curse them. 15When others are happy, be happy with them, and when they are sad, be sad. 16Be friendly with everyone. Don’t be proud and feel that you are smarter than others. Make friends with ordinary people. 17Don’t mistreat someone who has mistreated you. But try to earn the respect of others, 18and do your best to live at peace with everyone.

19Dear friends, don’t try to get even. Let God take revenge. In the Scriptures the Lord says,

“I am the one to take revenge and pay them back.”

20The Scriptures also say,

“If your enemies are hungry, give them something to eat. And if they are thirsty, give them something to drink. This will be the same as piling burning coals on their heads.”

21Don’t let evil defeat you, but defeat evil with good.

No matter what it is in life that may bring you down, just know that it can’t beat you. You’re gonna be alright. That’s a promise that has already been made to you…all you have to do is believe. Let your hope make you glad.

God bless, friends.
