New Year’s Eve Encouragement

New Year’s Eve. The day we say goodbye to the year that was, and prepare to say hello to the year that will be. A time to reflect, and a time to look ahead. This year was like no other. (Granted, you could say that about every year but, yeah…2020.)

It’s safe to say many, if not most, will be eager to forget about this past year and move forward to whatever may be ahead in 2021. I understand, as this was a very difficult and challenging year in many ways, here. If it was a rough one for you, I am so sorry. Losses have been plentiful for so many – whether it has been loss of life, employment, activities, etc.

But, as we start to fix our gaze upon the seemingly “can’t be any worse” year ahead and the hope of a better 12 months to come and try to just sweep 2020 under the rug…I’m going to challenge you to do something.

Think about what you can take with you from this past year. As in, focus just for a few moments on what you’ve gained or learned or been blessed with in 2020. The list might be short, I get it. But, my guess is there’s something you can put on this list.

Something you’ve made it through this year has made you stronger. Something you learned about yourself can be used for good. Something you gave of yourself will be returned, with interest. Something you struggled with will be used to help others, through your experience with it. Your hardships will lead to healing and your story might just be the very thing used to bring breakthrough to someone else’s life, someday.

This isn’t being written to say everything’s alright or that we should all just be fine. Just wanted to encourage you today, because I still believe everything happens for a reason and I believe the tough times in our lives are ultimately used for a greater glory. And, in the end, it is well.

Happy New Year to you. May 2021 be the best year of your life.

All Your Needs

“You can’t always get what you want.”

The Rolling Stones took that line and made it famous with their hit song 40 or so years ago. It still applies today and it always will here on Earth.

Life can seem really unfair sometimes. We all go through times when we simply do not get what we want – for some, it may seem like this happens all too often.

Whether it’s a promotion at work that doesn’t materialize, asking someone out and getting turned down, a coveted toy as a kid that never makes it to the living room, or something far more serious…as we go through life we are going to encounter times when what we want is not what is planned for us. It doesn’t make a lot of sense and it can be frustrating and lead to some pretty rough sailing.

I can think of plenty of times in my life when it felt like I just wasn’t getting what I thought I should get. Pretty sure I’m not alone, there. It’s tough to swallow and it can be hard to look on the bright side, especially if it’s something you’ve tagged with a high level of importance.

There are some powerful words that help me at times like this. I’ve come to really love and cherish this verse and I wanted to share it with you today.

Philippians 4
19 And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.

The part that always makes me feel better is when it says that all of my NEEDS will be met. There isn’t anything in there about all of my WANTS being met, but it specifically says that God will take care of what I need.

I think it’s easy to lose sight of this. I am frequently guilty of it. But it’s written right there, that despite my unfulfilled wants and all of the things that don’t seem to come to fruition at times…God has and is going to continue to give me what I need.

It’s a reminder that I have so much more than I deserve and more than I could have ever earned through any actions of mine. It’s all provided to me because of Jesus and I’m so thankful for it.

I hope this verse helps someone out there today who might be having a hard time or struggling to see the positive side of a situation when it doesn’t seem like you’re getting what you want. Just remember that with Him, you’re always going to have what you need 🙂

Have a great day!

It’s Your Choice

Perhaps you’re facing a difficult situation right now. Maybe you’ve been dealt a hand you feel isn’t fair or feel like you’re fighting an uphill battle. You’re looking at it as a bad deal, and one that doesn’t seem to have any upside to it.

No matter what it might be, the situations we encounter in our lives are neither good nor bad – they only become one of those two as a result of how we view them. Regardless of whether or not you’ve chosen your situation, you always get to choose how you look at it.

You Have Always Been Here

Broke Your heart a thousand times, but You have never left my side. You have always been here for me. You never let me go. You never let me go.

I heard this song this morning and thought I’d share it with you. It’s a reminder of God’s undying, unwavering love for us.

Remember, no matter what you’re going through, you are loved. Things of this world aren’t always going to be perfect. Far from it. But God’s love for you is perfect…and it’s never going to stop 🙂

I hope you have a great day.

A Place of Safety

Psalm 142:5

I pray to you, LORD! You are my place of safety, and you are my choice in the land of the living. Please answer my prayer. I am completely helpless.

What a gift we have in Jesus. A Savior who loves us, is merciful to us, and who provides us with a place of safety during our days spent here in this crazy world.

The last sentence of this verse is so true. I really am completely helpless without the LORD.

On the surface that sentence may look like it only applies to hard times or negative situations, but I interpret it differently. I realize the truth in those words more and more every day – on good days and not so good days. It’s a realization that humbles me on the good days and lifts me up on the not so good ones.

More than anything, I have found that trusting God keeps things balanced in life. I am so thankful for the peace that comes from every time He gives me the ability to acknowledge that I don’t have to carry all of life’s burdens. Granted, I’m guilty of not turning to God in every situation and guilty of trying to do it all sometimes (alright, a lot of times.) But the more I choose to believe and trust in what God promises, the better off I find myself to be.

It’s a work in progress…but the answer is always clear in the end. Now for the strength to be able to remember that my place of safety is always there.

In the past I would have considered stuff like this too personal to share. My attitude about that has (obviously) changed though, and I’d just like to say ‘thank you’ to those of you who have read all of this. Thanks for letting me share some of me with you.

What about you? Do you have a place of safety? Let’s talk about it. I’d love to hear from you. Click here https://positivelysecond.wordpress.com/feedback/ and send me a message, or just leave a comment below.

Have a great day everyone!
