Basil!

Caprese

We planted a garden in the yard earlier this year…and much to my surprise, things have actually grown in it! Among them, several nice looking basil plants.

We harvested a whole bunch of basil this weekend. I put it on top of fish for one meal, on top of chicken for another. We blanched some more and froze it for later.

Then, last night, we had this tasty treat as part of our dinner. Caprese is so easy to put together; I think we’ll be doing this one again soon. Just thought I’d share the photo. It was pretty tasty!

Do you have a garden? What kind of things do you grow in yours? Let me know in the comments section below, I’d love to hear from you.

Have a great day!

    1. Very nice! I may have to try the mint next year, that sounds great. Cilantro came up in our garden earlier this year and it was really tasty. We ended up freezing a bunch of it as well. Gardening is a lot of fun – I’m new to it, but enjoying it a lot! Thanks for commenting.

  1. Looks amazing! Delicious and very colorful! We have quite a bit planted this year, including some basil. I did a post on increasing your basil yield if you are interested. Find it here: http://www.thisandthatdad.com/?p=43. We also planted tomatoes, cucumbers, beans, zucchini and peppers. Just started harvesting cucumbers and looking forward to the rest coming soon. Great post!

    1. Very cool! Sounds like a great garden to me. Tomatoes and (hopefully) peppers are growing in ours as well. Cilantro came up earlier this year and it was quite tasty. It’s a lot of fun doing your own garden. This is my first year, but will definitely plan on doing it again next year!
