Victory or Defeat?

People say life is short. Well yes, in the grand scheme of things it is. This life is a mere blip on the radar of eternity…that is true. Totally agree.

But in other ways, life is long. Life is full of experiences, ups, downs, learning opportunities, joys, pains, unforgettable moments, forgettable moments, smiles, tears, and so much else. It’s quite the adventure.

Life doesn’t always go the way we expect it to go. Sometimes that’s a ‘good thing’ in our opinion, sometimes it’s not. But no matter what it is – it is. God puts us where we are for a reason, no matter where or how that might be. At that point, it’s up to us to do something with it.

The thing with all of us as human beings is that, we are just that…human. We lack the wisdom to discern what God is telling us sometimes. We question His plans, we think we can do it all on our own, we worry about the future, we let the past cloud the present, and we do a magnificent job of getting in the way of what God is doing for us at times.

But that’s ok. We’re not called to be perfect or to know it all. We’re called to trust God, to believe that He knows what’s best for us, and to ask for the wisdom to know what He wants us to do. Do we always do that? Absolutely not! If perfection was what He was looking for out of us, we’d all be toast. Epic fail.

Fortunately, there is mercy, grace, love, and peace readily available to all of us. That’s because the only person who ever was perfect on this Earth willingly suffered a brutal, painful, unfair death so that our sins could be forgiven and so we could have a chance to meet God someday. All He asks us to do is let Him be the leader of our lives.

Today I’m just thanking my Savior, my hope, my Redeemer, my comforter, my everything Jesus for doing that for me, this flawed, imperfect human being. I don’t deserve it. But He did it just the same. He did it for you too.

So if you’re struggling with something and not fully embracing the life you’ve been given, don’t spend another day in defeat – no matter what it is that might make you think that way. Painful experiences, disappointments, hurtful words, heartbreaks, screw-ups, failures, shortcomings…they were all nailed to the Cross that day. Don’t let them keep you from your victory, from living the awesome, unique, wonderful life that God has given you to enjoy.

It’s up to you to choose: victory or defeat. I hope you’ll make the right choice.

Have a great day!

  1. Great and grace-filled words, Brian, for those, like me, who are struggling with imperfection, worry and doubt. It’s so good to know that we can daily choose victory in Him. We don’t have to do life our own way!
